Physical Education is an essential part of life and the curriculum at Thomas Becket Catholic School. The aspiration is for maximum participation, benefit and enjoyment where students are expected to apply high standards of behaviour and effort toward all of the many activities undertaken. As a department we promote high standards of performance and fair play and hope that students are inspired to pursue active lives beyond school.

We believe that physical education is more than just playing sport. We look to develop confidence and self esteem, responsibility and leadership as well as teaching the core values of the school through healthy completion and challenges within both lessons and the many other extracurricular opportunities.

  • A Sports Hall with 4 badminton courts and a full sized basketball court.
  • A newly refurbished gymnasium
  • A cardio and weights room

Extra Curricular Activities

The PE staff at Thomas Becket offer a wide range of lunchtime and after school activities for students of all abilities in curriculum and non-curriculum sports and with regular competitions at Local, County and National Level where we often have great success.

Sports leadership plays a large part within the department and older students are encouraged to help and assist with clubs and fixtures where we often have key stage 4 & 5 students referring/umpiring interschool competitions. They are also key in supporting the work of the SSCO with the running and organising of primary school sports events and festivals.

We also organise trips such as: the Sports Leaders Residential in the Brecon Beacons, Foreign Sports tours for the football and netball teams, Paralympic visit to the Olympic park in 2012, BTEC Outdoor Adventure Day.
