Students from Thomas Becket Catholic School were celebrating this morning as they discovered they had achieved the school’s best set of results in recent years.
A total of 51% achieved a standard pass or above in English and maths. While comparisons are difficult due to changes in how GCSEs are graded, the figure is up eight percentage points on 2015 and includes some outstanding individual performances.
The Department for Education has announced that from September 2015, the Persistent Absence (PA) criteria will change from 15% to 10%. This means that any student who falls below 90% attendance will become a persistent absence pupil and therefore reported to National and Local Government through the school census. This announcement will have a major impact on our school Attendance Policy and school attendance figures. Therefore parents need to be aware of the changes.
