As a Catholic school, our mission is to always put Christ at the centre of everything we do in school life and to recognise the spirit of the risen Lord being present and alive in our school community in the ordinary events of everyday life – in academic studies, pastoral care, religious life and personal formation. This of course begins with our school Mission Statement, ‘Christ’s Love is our Foundation’.
At Thomas Becket, we recognise that we are all very different. We are an incredibly diverse and multi-talented community, where each student is supported in being the very best version of him or herself. We want to encourage students to know themselves, to play to his /her strengths and to develop his/her talents in every way possible.
We are committed to living out the values of Christ’s Gospel’ through our school values of Faith, Justice, Compassion, Truth and Respect, in how we treat one another and in how we respond to life in our twenty first century society and in the wider world.
Prayer is an important aspect of the life of our school and we worship together as one community. We want to instil in the students at Thomas Becket the determination never to accept second best in their lives and to have a true sense of God’s love and of their own self-worth which will enable them to stand up for themselves and for a purpose greater than themselves.
If we work together towards this, beginning with fully embracing the Catholic Ethos of the school and making the prayer life central to everything we do then we can help them begin their journey of developing a relationship with a God who loves them and forgives them and is there for them no matter what, regardless of race or religion, faith or no faith.
We recognise that each young person is making a personal spiritual journey and we invite all members of our community on a journey of self-discovery by offering time and opportunity for reflection and consideration of the spiritual side of life. In this way each child may grow and develop as an individual who can look outside of themselves with empathy, wisdom and a sense of purpose.
The role of Chaplaincy includes:
- To help the school to be a community of faith.
- To encourage staff and students to live their faith in daily life.
- To develop good relationships within and beyond the school community.
- To support liturgy, prayer and the spiritual life of the school.
- To support staff and students in fundraising for charities.
- To continue to develop strong links within the parishes.
- To support the school in its Mission Statement.
- To be involved in the general well-being of the staff and students.
- To bring the Catholic schools together in Trust wide events.
