Thomas Becket Catholic School

Thomas Becket Catholic School

The Sixth form at Thomas Becket Catholic School offers fantastic opportunities for our students to study and further their skills, enabling them to gain qualifications and experiences for them to access university, further education and careers of their choice.  We have our own newly refurbished Sixth form study centre and common room with bespoke facilities for the students to use.

We offer a range of academic and practical courses at Level 3 which lead to AS, A Level or BTEC qualifications.  The progress of students is regularly monitored and students are successful in gaining places at university or college on courses of their choice.

Details for specific courses and entry requirements can be found in the Post 16 Course Choices Guide which is updated annually. As well as the range of academic/practical courses there is a comprehensive tutorial programme that offers guidance for students in study skills, vocational and career advice, financial management and higher education.

We have a PHSE programme which includes individual and group information, advice and guidance, support with Personal Statements, interviews practice and visits to universities and work places.  We attend the annual UCAS convention offering students the chance to gain first hand professional advice from university course tutors/ admissions tutors.  In addition to this comprehensive programme, Sixth form “surgeries” are held with the Director of Study for 1:1 support and individual action planning.

Furthermore our students are actively encouraged to participate and contribute to all aspects of school life.  All of our Sixth form students opt for enrichment activities, such as Sports Leader Awards which further enhance their all-round education, thereby equipping them for their future pathways.  The Sports leaders participate in coaching skills by working with students lower down the school and in local Primary schools.

There are many other leadership opportunities open to our Sixth form students – we have a team of student ambassadors supporting whole school events and community work and many of our student leaders work with teachers in Key Stage 3 and 4 as mentors and, most importantly, leading by example as ‘role models’ in our school and wider community.

We look forward to meeting with you soon.
